Olga
Monush
November 2, 1929 – February 23, 2025
Olga Monush, 95, of Woodbridge Township passed away peacefully on February 23rd, 2025 after being diagnosed with breast cancer last year. Olga, the devoted daughter of Joseph and Elizabeth, was born on November 2nd, 1929 – a light at the start of The Great Depression. She lived most of her life in Hopelawn, working at the Perth Amboy shirt factory, until moving to Olsen Towers apartments, now Green Oak, in Fords.
An unlikely matriarch having no children of her own, she was a constant presence in the lives of her family, friends, and neighbors. She was endlessly proud of her growing clan which now includes 13 "great great" nieces and nephews along with the generations before them. Olga blossomed as the nanny to Jackie and Sam and delighted as they grew into wonderful human beings with children of their own. She was a staple at her building, always with a wave. Olga brought out the kindness in her neighbors who were always willing to help. She was a proud member of the Woodbridge Hungarian Reformed Church where she honed her skills as an avid Bingo player.
Aunt Olga defied science and time. She lived independently until the end and WELL. Olga travelled to Hungary, England, and her beloved Hawaii. She enjoyed her hot dogs, donuts, spiced ham, and ice cream on a weekly basis – not eating a vegetable since 1985. When asked her secret to a long life, she would joke "No husbands. No kids. No headaches." There might just be something to that. The legend of Aunt Olga will continue through those who knew her. She will be missed.
She is survived by her favorite nephew Craig Kelemen, his partner and honorary nephew John Andress - godson John Kelemen Jr and family of England - Michelle, John, Jackie, and Sam of the Iacouzzi clan - and many more nieces and nephews.
Visitation will be from 10am to 12pm on Friday, February 28th, at the Flynn and Son / Mitruska Funeral Home, 23 Ford Avenue, Fords NJ.
In lieu of flowers, Memorial contributions may be made to the American Cancer Society.
