Octavio
Ruiz
November 29, 1949 – January 6, 2026
Octavio Ruiz, 76, of Fords, NJ, passed away on January 6, 2026, at JFK Medical Center. Born on November 29, 1949, in San Sebastián, Puerto Rico, Octavio's life was a journey marked by love, laughter, and devotion to family.
He spent most of his years in Brooklyn, NY, before settling in New Jersey in 2000. A jeweler by trade, Octavio poured creativity into his work and unique pieces, but his greatest pride was always his family. Known as the beloved patriarch, he cherished every moment spent with his daughters, grandchildren, and the many little ones his wife helped care for—earning him the affectionate title of "Yeyo," "Grillo" and "Popa."
Octavio was a fan of the New York Mets and found joy in simple pleasures—sharing meals, cooking, and crafting with his hands. His quick wit, unique sayings, and playful humor made him the family's "wild card," bringing smiles, many nicknames and unforgettable memories to every gathering.
He was predeceased by his parents, Rogelio Ruiz and Benita Perez; his brother, Mariano Ruiz; and his sister, Eroilda Rios. He leaves behind wife, Nydia Ruiz of Fords; three loving and devoted daughters: Nydia Ruiz-Velez and her husband Ignacio of Fords; Denise Ruiz-Cabrera and her husband Angel of Fords; and Marilyn Ruiz of Stanley, NY. He was the proud grandfather of five: Melanie Velez, Luis Velez, Heaven Marissa Velez, Christian Gabriel Cabrera, and Alexis Gabriela Cabrera.
Octavio also held a special place in his heart for his many nieces, nephews, and extended family, in particular his niece Diana Perez and nephew Victor Roger Rios. His life was a testament to love, resilience, and togetherness—a legacy that will live on in the hearts of all who knew him. His memory is a blessing to all who loved him.
Visitation will be held on Sunday, January 11, 2026, from 3:00 PM to 7:00 PM at Flynn and Son/Mitruska Funeral Home, 23 Ford Ave., Fords, NJ 08863.
