Norma Nebus, 95, of Fords, passed away peacefully at home on August 13, 2026.
Born on July 15, 1931, in Jamaica, Queens, NY, Norma spent her early childhood years in Brooklyn, with her family eventually settling in Staten Island. She graduated from Tottenville High School, continuing her education in the diet and nutrition field.
A resident of Fords for over 75 years , Norma was a communicant of Our Lady of Peace Church and served on the Parent Teacher Association at Our Lady of Peace School. She excelled at Trivia games, enjoyed bowling, movies, music, playing the piano and singing songs. Traveling, walking in the park and being near the water, were also things she loved to do. A devoted caregiver, Norma generously cared not only for her children, but, also elderly family members with special needs.
Norma was a member of Evergreen & Hickory Senior Centers, where she enjoyed the companionship of friends while participating in puzzles, beading, making jewelry, as well as, luncheons and group outings.
Known for her strong work ethic, she owned and operated a tavern in Sayreville for over 20 years and also a ran a successful cleaning service.
Norma was predeceased by her husband, Arthur F. Nebus, in 1968, and a brother, Alan McBrien.
She is survived by four children, Judy Darlington and her husband Donald, of Fanwood. Gary Nebus, and his wife, Ann, of Fords, Lori Froehlich, and her husband Michael, of Lake Mary, Fla, Arthur Nebus, and his wife, Delia, of Fords: Nine grandchildren: Gary, Thomas, Shannon, Donald and wife Valerie, Michael and wife Casey, Adam, Casey and husband Max, Arthur, Daniel; Seven great grandchildren: Gary, Michael, Jackson, Gia, Austyn, Keely, Tayton.
Visitation will be at the Flynn and Son/Mitruska Funeral Home, 23 Ford Ave, Fords, NJ 08863, on Wednesday, August 19, 2026, from 4-8 pm. Funeral Services will begin Thursday 10 am, at the funeral home, followed by a 10:30 am Funeral Liturgy at Our Lady of Peace Church. Interment will be in St. Gertrude’s Cemetery.
