Nicholas J. Caiola, Sr., 94, formerly of Fords, Edison and Toms River, passed peacefully on Saturday, December 16, 2017, at The Venetian Nursing Home, South Amboy.
He was a veteran of WWII, proudly serving in the US Army, where he was a military police officer and recipient of the Purple Heart and Bronze Star.
He was a former member of the Perth Amboy Elks Lodge, and loved to dance and sing.
Mr. Caiola was also a semi-professional tuba player, with the musicians union in New York.
Before retiring, he was a truck driver for Carolina Freight for 15 years and drove for numerous other trucking companies in NJ throughout his career. He was a member of the Teamsters locals; # 478, #560 and #701.
Nicholas was predeceased by his beloved wife, Filomena Caiola who died in March of 2015, his son, Joseph N. Caiola, who died in June of 2014 and his late siblings; Thomas, Rose Cerchio, Anthony, Graziano and Gabby.
Nick leaves behind his beloved son, Nicholas J. Caiola, Jr. and his daughters in law, Loretta and Carol Caiola, all of Edison, his two grandsons; Joseph and Anthony Caiola,, and many nieces and nephews.
Visitation will be on Tuesday, December 19, 2017 from 7-9 pm and Wednesday, December 20,2017 from 2-4 and 7-9 pm at the Flynn and Son Funeral Home, 23 Ford Ave. Fords, NJ 08863.
Funeral services will begin on Thursday, December 21, 2017 10 a.m. from the Flynn and Son Funeral Home, followed by a 10:30 a.m. Funeral Liturgy at Our Lady of Peace Church, Fords, entombment will follow in Hollywood Memorial Park Mausoleum, Union.
