Neida Gonzalez, 95, of Rumson, passed away peacefully at home on July 30, 2024. Remembered fondly as Chiquita or Mima, Neida was born on December 30, 1928, in Meneses, Cuba. Neida was a Homemaker. She enjoyed spending time with and caring for her family.  The family she left behind in Cuba was also very important to her and never forgotten.  She made sure to instill those values in her daughters and granddaughter as well.  She spent much of her free time making sure that her family's needs were provided for, both in the US and in Cuba.  In more recent years, she enjoyed playing dominoes, reading Hola magazine, watching novelas, listening to Cuban music that reminded her of her years there, and indulging in her favorite sweets.

Neida was predeceased by her husband, Jose Maria Gonzalez, in 1991; four brothers: Humberto, Domingo (Perico), Jose Librado (Bebo), and Miguel Angel (Chicho); and a sister, Flor (Nena).  She is survived by a brother, Armando of Union City; two daughters, Neida Fragoso, of Rumson, and Maria Sanchez, of West New York; a granddaughter, Vanessa Mendez-Gamez; two great-grandchildren, Lucia and Luis; and her caretaker of over 20 years, Marta Izurieta who became like another daughter to Neida.

We are thankful for all of the years of comfort and care that Marta provided to Neida and are sure that her long life was a direct result of Marta's dedication.

A Funeral Liturgy will be held at Our Lady of Fatima Church in Perth Amboy on Saturday, August 3, 2024, at 10 am. Entombment will follow in Flower Hill Cemetery in North Bergan.
