Morris "Mo"
Kay
February 19, 1929 – May 23, 2022
Morris (Mo) Kay of Metuchen, NJ, died peacefully on May 23, 2022 following a long illness.
Mo was born in 1929 in Albany, NY, the youngest child - and only son - of Nathan and Anna
Kay. He was a proud graduate of Milne High School, part of the New York State College for
Teachers. He earned his B.S. at Union College in Schenectady. After service in the Army during
the Korean War, Mo returned to school, earning a Ph.D. in chemistry from Rensselaer
Polytechnic Institute. He worked as an analytical chemist for many years, enjoyed traveling to
teach lab safety seminars, and after retiring, taught chemistry, primarily to nursing students at
several local colleges. He loved conversing with the nurses who cared for him during his
hospitalizations, and he was aware that chemistry was usually not their favorite required
subject.
Mo enjoyed travel for work and vacations, but believed there was no better place to live than
Metuchen, New Jersey. He was fascinated by language, and his hobbies included New York
Times puzzles - especially on Sundays. Family car trips were often occasions for passing time
in word play. He also liked to host dinners, where he would serve homemade pasta and sauces
made from the tomatoes and other vegetables he grew in his garden.
Morris was predeceased by his parents and his sisters: Harriet McClintock, Evelyn David, and
Charlotte Kay. He leaves behind his children, Andy Kay and Mary Kay Lewis; five grandchildren,
Christine Lewis, Gregory Lewis, Nicole Kay, Christopher Kay, and Jacob Kay; and an ex-wife,
Patricia Kay.
