Monika Karin Korte 80, entered eternal rest on January 31, 2023.  She was born on April 12, 1942 in Berlin, Germany. She was the only child of Herta and Fritz Merker and was a resident of Menlo Park Terrace for 58 years.

Monika met and married her husband, Howard in Berlin Germany in 1959 and immigrated to the US in 1960 first living in Altoona, PA and Indianapolis, Indiana before finally moving to New Jersey.  Monika dedicated her life to caring for her family, including many hours volunteering with the John F. Kennedy Marching Band which all three of her children were a part of.  Her talent was laundry, there was rarely a stain that she couldn't eradicate.  Later in life she found joy as a preschool teachers' aid at the Centenary Early Learning Center in Metuchen adoring and caring for all the kids that came through her class.  She also enjoyed shopping, Starbucks coffee, watching Judge Judy and Judge Joe Brown, and eating at Panera. However, her favorite hobby was talking on the phone which all her friends and family can attest.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Howard in 2016.  She leaves behind her daughters who will miss her dearly: Karen Zeher of Cary, NC, Susan Sengpiel of Marietta, GA, and Stephanie Trela (Robert) of Kendall Park; her six grandchildren who lovingly called her "Omi:" Matthew and Kevin Zeher, Jakob and Joseph Sengpiel, Bobby and Katie Trela, and three great-grandchildren.

Friends may call at the Flynn and Son Funeral Home, 23 Ford Ave., Fords on Saturday, February 11, 2023 from 1:00p – 4:00p.  Entombment in St. Gertrude Mausoleum will take place privately.
