Obituary

Monica Lynn Forgione was peacefully called home June 25, 2018 after a courageous and inspiring battle with cancer. Monica was born and raised in Perth Amboy, NJ and had resided in Edison, NJ since 2006.

Monica attended Mount Saint Mary Academy and graduated from Rutgers University with a degree in Economics. She had worked for several organizations, but primarily cared for her family, which she considered her proudest accomplishment.

Monica was a devout and active Catholic, serving as a lifelong parishioner of Good Shepherd Parish. Monica was a loving wife to her husband whom she recently celebrated 32 beautiful years. Her three children, all fine young men, are a testament to her limitless capacity to love and care for her family, and took them to countless practices, games, and performances. There was never a moment in her family's life where mom was not present, and Monica always played an active role in our lives – Monica was our best friend.

Monica found joy in the simple things in life such as shopping, gardening and watching Everybody Loves Raymond. She enjoyed the Jersey Shore and annual family getaways with her husband and sons.  An excellent baker and talented cook, she will be remembered for always gathering the family together at her table on Sundays, where she cooked her famous meal of pasta, meatballs, and sausage.

Thank you to all the members of Raritan Bay Medical Center and Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center, for your valiant efforts, love, and support.

Monica is predeceased by her father, Peter Martiak, and survived by her mother, Jean Martiak, her husband, Salvatore, her children Salvatore Peter, his fiancé Melissa Markle; Stephen Joseph, Louis Matthew, and her brother, Mark Martiak, his wife Angela Rapoport, and their daughter, Audrey, as well as numerous loving aunts, uncles, and cousins.

Visitation will be at the Flynn and Son Funeral Home, 23 Ford Ave., Fords, NJ 08863, Thursday 2-4 and 7-9 pm. Funeral services will begin Friday 9:30 am at the funeral home followed by a 10 am Funeral Liturgy at Good Shepherd Parish in Holy Rosary Church. Interment will be in Holy Rosary Cemetery.
