Miriam Belafsky, 89, of Monroe Township, formerly of Metuchen, died on Tuesday, November 9, 2010, at her home.
Born in Highland Park, she had resided in Metuchen for 60 years before moving to Monroe. Mrs. Belafsky had been the chief bookkeeper of Boyt Drugs in Metuchen, which she and her husband Harry had owned for over 50 years until it was sold in 2007. She was also one of the founding members of Congregation Neve Shalom in Metuchen. She was a member of the Metuchen Metro Lions Club, and a former member of the Metuchen Chamber of Commerce.
Mrs. Belafsky was preceded in death by her husband Harry in 2003. She is survived by her son Donald Belafsky and his wife Lourdes of Edison, and daughter Judith Mirman of Monroe. She also is survived by her grandchildren: Gregory Mirman, Lauren Miller and her husband Blake, and Rachel Mirman.
Funeral services will take place at 11:30 a.m. on Sunday, November 14, 2010, from the FLYNN & SON/KOYEN FUNERAL HOME, 319 Amboy Avenue, Metuchen. Interment will follow in Beth Israel Memorial Park, Woodbridge. Shiva will be observed on Sunday following the services at the home of her daughter, Judith Mirman.
Memorial donations may be made in Mrs. Belafsky's memory to the American Cancer Society.
