Born in Newark, NJ and formerly of Irvington and Perth Amboy, he had resided in Woodbridge Twp. for the last 4 years.

Mike worked as a toll collector for the New Jersey Turnpike for 10 years before working as a service manager for Goodyear Tire Service Center in Menlo Park for 15 years. Even after leaving, he could always be found working on cars and lawn tools for friends, family, and neighbors. He enjoyed playing billiards (both in-person and online), bowling, baking cheesecakes, and gardening. He was a former member of the Hillside Knights of Columbus.

He was predeceased by his sister, Riza Baron; his parents, Michael and Elizabeth Szabo; his great-nephew, Eric James Baron; his brother-in-law, Alfred McGrath Jr.; and his father-in-law, Alfred McGrath Sr.

Mike leaves behind his beloved wife of 35 years, Patricia McGrath Szabo, his three beloved children, Matthew P. Szabo and his wife Julianne of Long Valley, Ryan Szabo of Woodbridge Twp. and Megan Szabo of Philadelphia; his grandson, William Szabo; his sister, Michele Loihle of Verona; his brothers-in-law, David Baron of Cape Coral, FL and Daniel McGrath of Summit; his sister-in-law Maureen Roland and her husband Robert of Summit; his mother-in-law, Teresa McGrath of Summit; his 2 nephews, David M. Baron and his wife Liana of Key West, FL and Eric Baron and his wife Elizabeth of Scarsdale, NY; his nieces, Christine Dunning and her husband Lucien of Ramsey, NJ and Fran Menendez of Pelham, NY; his great-nieces, Emily and Elexa Baron & Olivia and Linley Baron.

Visitation will take place on Wednesday, August 18, 2021 from 4-7 pm .

Funeral services will be on Thursday, August 19, 2021 at 9:30 am from the Flynn and Son Funeral Home, 23 Ford Ave. Fords, NJ, 08863 . A Funeral Liturgy will follow at 10:30 am at St Joseph RC Church, 767 Prospect St. Maplewood, NJ 07040 . Cremation will follow privately.

In lieu of flowers contributions in Mike's memory may be made to Hassenfield Children's Hospital at NYU in honor of his late great-nephew Eric James.
