Michael P. Savoia 66 of Perth Amboy, entered into eternal rest, May 2, 2018 at Robert Wood Johnson University Hospital in New Brunswick. He was born in Perth Amboy and was a lifelong resident of the city.

Michael spent his entire teaching career serving the students of Perth Amboy.

He was the longest serving Treasurer of the Perth Amboy Federation/American Federation of Teachers starting with his first election to office in 1986.  He was also the treasurer of the New Jersey State Federation of Teachers in the early 1990's.  Adding to his treasurer duties Michael was a delegate at the National AFT convention numerous times.

As a community member Michael succeeded his father Pat on the Zoning Board of Adjustments and also served as the chair of the committee.

Michael was always good at telling jokes and pulling pranks but he was also warm and generous.  On Thanksgiving he and his wife Cathy would think nothing of taking part in feeding the hungry and greeting the homeless.  Always the first one to offer a hand, never wanting any fanfare he had a unique character one will never forget.

Michael was predeceased by his parents Patrick and Helen Savoia, and his brother Kevin in 2015.  He is survived by Cathy his wife of 43 years, his siblings Barbara A. Savoia of Perth Amboy, and Patrick Savoia Jr., his mother and father-in-laws Bruce and Barbara Scott of Maine, his sisters-in-law Donna Savoia of Fords, and Sandra Scott of Florida, his brother-in-law James Scott of New Hampshire, his nieces and nephews Shirin, Scott, Kevin, Kyle, Kelsey, and Nadine, and great niece and nephew Devyn and Heavyn.

Funeral services will be held on Monday at 10 am at the Flynn and Son Funeral Home 23 Ford Avenue, Fords followed by a 10:30 Funeral Liturgy at Our Lady of Peace R C Church.  Interment will be in Holy Rosary Cemetery.  Visitation is Sunday from 2-4 and 7-9 pm.
