Michael A. McCann, Sr., 80, of Edison died Saturday, June 19, 2010 at the Haven Hospice Unit at JFK Medical Center in Edison.
Born in Hopelawn and formerly from Fords, he has resided in Edison for the last 43 years. He was employed as a kiln fireman with Carborundum of Keasbey for 42 years before retiring 18 years ago. He served in the U.S. Marine Corp. and was a veteran of World War II. Michael was a member of St. Michael's Byzantine Rite Catholic Church in Perth Amboy.
He is predeceased by his late sons, Michael MccCann, Jr., and Kenneth McCann; and his late grandson, Michael McCann, III. He is survived by his wife of 59 years, Violet (Wilson) McCann; his son, Thomas McCann and his wife Christine of Edison; his daughters: Pamela A. Tippett of Plymouth Meeting, PA, and Sharon McCann of Edison; 3 grandchildren: Timothy Sexton, and Gracie and Thomas McCann; 3 great-grandchildren; and his sister, Eleanor McCann of Edison.
Funeral Services will be on Tuesday, June 22, 2010, at 9 am from the FLYNN AND SON FUNERAL HOME, 23 Ford Avenue, Fords, followed by a Service of Divine Liturgy at St. Michael's Byzantine Rite Church in Perth Amboy at 9:30. Interment will follow in St. Michael's Cemetery, Fords. Visitation will be on Monday, June 21, 2010, from 2-4 and 7-9 pm with a Parastas service at 7 pm.
