Obituary of Michael "Irish" Magner


Mike, 78, of Fords, passed away peacefully Thursday, December 17, 2020 at his home. Mr. Magner was born in County Cork, Ireland to the late Daniel and Margaret Magner, He came to the US in 1961 and had resided in Fords for the last 58 years.

He was employed as a mold operator for Raritan River Steel in Perth Amboy for thirty years before retiring in 2009.

Michael was a member of the Our Lady of Peace RC Church in Fords, where he served as an usher for many years.

He was predeceased by his son Glenn Hratko, son-in-law Renny Nunn and two sisters, Bridie Mackey and Margaret Itgen.


Mike is survived are his beloved wife, of forty-eight years, Arlene A. (nee Iorillo) Magner, devoted father of Wayne Hratko of Fords, Karen Nunn of Marlton, and Kathleen Caputo and husband Brian of South Amboy.
Adored "Pop" to eight grandchildren. Also survived by sisters Mona (Dennis) Mellerick of Ireland and Kathleen Vinnai of Oviedo, FL,brother-in-law Walter Itgen and several nieces and nephews.

Funeral services will be held Tuesday 10:00 am at the Mitruska Funeral Home, 531 New Brunswick Ave., Fords. Followed by a 10:30 am mass in the Our Lady of Peace Church in Fords. Private cremation services will follow. Visitation hours will be held Monday from 4 - 7 pm. In lieu of flowers memorial donations may be made to the Rutgers Cancer Institute of NJ, 195 Little Albany St., New Brunswick, NJ 08903.
