Meyer Diamond, 97, of Eatontown, passed away on August 11, 2014, at Brandywine Senior Care in Shrewsbury. He was born in Perth Amboy on May 24, 1917. Meyer has resided in Eatontown, Newark, and Jackson. He owned and operated Meyer's Market in Newark for many years. He graduated from Perth Amboy High School, Class of 1934. He then attended Boston College for a year before being drafted into the US Army. Meyer fought in the Battle of the Bulge in Baston, France. He later met his future wife, Gloria, in Paris. He was a member of the Jewish War Veterans, and member of Congregation Torat El in Oakhurst. He loved driving his car and spending time with his friends.
Meyer was predeceased by his wife, Gloria A. Diamond, in 1992; his son, Lester Diamond in 1995, and his sister, Tillie Cheuse.
He is survived by his son, Jack Diamond, of Islip, NY; two daughters, Sandra Lief of Ponte Vedra Beach, FL and Isadora Diamond of Boise, ID; three grandchildren: Robert, Wyatt, and Sarah: three great-grandchildren, Kerry, Kenneth, and Wesley;two nephews, Sheldon and Allen Cheuse; and companion, Mildred Frangella of Eatontown.
Graveside Services will be held 1pm Wednesday, August 13, 2014, in Beth Mordecai Cemetery, Perth Amboy. Shiva will be observed Wednesday and Thursday evening at, Congregation Torat, 301 Monmouth Rd., Oakhurst, NJ 07755.
