June 6, 1947 – August 18, 2024
Melvin L Deak, 77, of Perth Amboy, passed peacefully on Sunday, August 18, 2024, with the love of his "family of friends" at his side, at the Riverview Hospital in Red Bank after a courageous bout with cancer.
He was born and raised in Perth Amboy, where he was a lifelong resident of the city.
He received his BS degree in Physics, while minoring in Mathematics, from Trenton State College, and was a member of the Sigma Pi Sigma National Physics Honor Society.
He proudly served his country in the U.S. Army and was a veteran of the Vietnam War.
He retired in 2015, after working many years as a Information Technology Consultant with ComSci, LLC in Iselin, NJ
He was a member of the Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers.
He was an avid fisherman who loved photography. On a boat in the ocean is where he created many of his strongest friendships and fondest memories. His love for Fishing and Maritime led him to create the website we know as Mels-Place.com.
Melvin was predeceased by his beloved parents, Louis A. Deak, Jr. (1995) and Elizabeth Kucsma Deak (1999), and his beloved sister, Lauren Deak (2023).
He leaves behind his most beloved and cherished friends, Dawn Paver-Pritchard and her husband Gil of Parlin, Kimberly Daniewicz of Edison, Alexander Schmidt of Lake Worth FL, Seth Gusman of Baltimore MD, Maria Gay of Key West FL & Louie "Linguine" Dello of Beachwood. He was also affectionately known as "Uncle Mel" to Michael and Emily Daniewicz and Shane Pritchard. Also surviving are cousins Gail, Marian, Melanie, Johanna & their families.
Visitation will be held on Wednesday morning, August 21, 2024, from 10:30 am until 12:30 pm at the Flynn and Son Funeral Home located at 23 Ford Ave. Fords NJ 08863, followed by a service at 12:30 pm with Rev. Stefan Torok.
Interment services and military honors will follow at Calvary Cemetery, Florida Grove Road, Hopelawn, NJ.
If desired, contributions may be made to Barbi's Blankets in Melvin's memory.
