Matilda Mendelson Witkin, 88, of Somerset, died April 27, 2011, at home.
Born in Albany, NY, Matilda grew up in Highland Park, and lived in Perth Amboy, Edison, and Metuchen before moving to Somerset. After graduating from Douglass College, she went to work for the Associated Press in Newark. Later, she worked for Scarecrow Press in Metuchen and MED Communications in Woodbridge. Matilda was a life master in duplicate bridge, an active member of the Reunion Committee of Highland Park High School, Class of 1940, and an avid mah-jongg player.
Matilda was predeceased by her husband, Paul Witkin (1988); her brother, David Madison, and her sister, Shirley Mendelson. She is survived by her daughters Laurie Witkin of Florida and Merle Milder (Richard) of Edison; her brother, Leo Mendelson of Texas; and her grandsons, Benjamin Milder of Edison and Tristan Milder of Georgia.
Funeral Services will be held on Friday, April 29, 2011, at 10:30 am from the FLYNN AND SON/KOYEN FUNERAL HOME, 319 Amboy Avenue, Metuchen, NJ. Rabbi Deborah Bravo officiating. Interment will be in Beth Israel Cemetery, Woodbridge, NJ. Shiva will be held Friday following interment and on Sunday after 11:00 am at the family's residence in Somerset.
