Obituary of Mary Ann Whalen


Mary Ann Whalen, 90, of Perth Amboy, passed away Monday, October 19, 2020 at the Raritan Bay Medical Center in Perth Amboy. Mrs. Whalen was born in Swoyerville, PA to the late Steve and Caroline Brutko and had lived in Perth Amboy for the last fifty-five years.

She was employed by Schering-Plough Pharmaceutical in Kenilworth for thirty years before retiring in 1988.

Mary Ann was a longtime member of Good Shepherd Parish - Most Holy Rosary Church in Hopelawn and also of the Ladies' Guild of the church.

She was predeceased by her beloved husband James in 2006 and also by three brothers and two sisters.

She is survived by her three sons: James J. Whalen and his wife Margaret of Fords, Kevin Whalen and his wife Catriona-Grace of South Amboy, and Thomas J. Whalen and his wife Jenny L. of Flower Mound, TX, her brother: Steve Brutko of Carlisle, PA, nine grandchildren and thirteen great grandchildren.

Funeral services will be held Monday 10:30 am at the Mitruska Funeral Home, Inc., 531 New Brunswick Ave., Fords. Followed by an 11:00 am mass in the Most Holy Rosary Church in Hopelawn. Interment will follow in the Alpine Cemetery in Perth Amboy. Visitation hours will be held Monday from 8:30 am until the time of services.
