Mary L. Dugan Rooney, 75, of Lakewood, daughter of Joseph and Dorothy Dugan, peacefully entered into eternal rest on November 2, 2015, at Monmouth Medical Center South Campus. She was born in Jersey City and had resided in Lakewood for the past 2 years.

Mary graduated from the Berkeley School of Business and enjoyed a successful career as an Administrative Assistant for the Wensco Co. in Springfield until her retirement in 1998.  She was one of three girls that grew up in Roselle, NJ. Mary enjoyed the water and with her sister and friends would often do day trips to the Jersey Shore. She was a member of the Polar Bear Club and leaped into the cold Atlantic on many New Years' Days as an adult. She also loved watching sports, especially baseball. She was a huge Red Sox fan and rarely missed a game.

Mary was predeceased by her 3rd husband, John Rooney, in 2011; her 2nd husband, Kenneth Scowen, in 1998; and her 1st husband, Andrew Peterson III, in 1988. She was also predeceased by her sister, Ruth Farrell, and step daughter, Chrissy Rooney.

She is survived by her daughter, Heather D. Peterson, of Edison; her sister, Dorothy Leary; and step-children: Jack Rooney, Yvette Pederson, Carol Oscar, and Michelle Board.

Funeral services will be held on Saturday at 10:15 am at St. Francis Cathedral, Main Street, Metuchen followed by entombment in Woodbridge Memorial Gardens. Visitation will be on Friday from 2-4 and 7-9 pm at the Flynn and Son/Koyen Funeral Home, 319 Amboy Avenue, Metuchen.
