Marvin Jeffrey
Brauth
February 3, 1950 – April 22, 2021
Marvin Jeffrey Brauth, beloved father, grandfather, loving partner, and brother, passed away on April 22 at the age of 71 in his home in Bradley Beach, NJ, surrounded by his loved ones.
Born in Far Rockaway NY, to Paul and Rosalie Brauth, Marvin learned from his parents the values of hard work, doing the right thing, persistence, optimism and most importantly family. He personified these ideals his entire life. As a child, Marvin showed a deep interest in politics and law, and even subscribed to the Congressional Record. He attended Far Rockaway H.S. where he excelled academically and earned a varsity letter in track. He then studied at Colgate University and received a law degree from the University of Pennsylvania.
After law school, Marvin joined the firm Wilentz, Goldman & Spitzer in Woodbridge, NJ, where he would become a partner and spend his entire 45-year career. Marvin was part of Wilentz's corporate and commercial litigation group, with a primary focus in franchise law, eminent domain matters and complex corporate litigation in federal and state courts in NJ and NY. He handled many cutting-edge cases, even winning a case before the U.S. Supreme Court. He authored many articles and lectured for professional and business groups. Receiving many honors for his work, he was included regularly in the Best Lawyers in NJ/NY, and Super Lawyers NJ annual publications, and was awarded the Community Leader of Distinction from the Middlesex County Regional Chamber of Commerce in 2006.
Most important in Marvin's life was his family, especially his three children, Jason, Brian and Laura. He spent the lion's share of his weekends and evenings attending their ice hockey and baseball practices and games, dance recitals, helping with schoolwork, and being a fountain of information and advice. After his children were grown, Marvin was still the first person they called for advice. When it came to his children, he truly defined the word "selfless."
Marvin was also the loving partner of Susette for 25 years. Together they built a beautiful home in Bradley Beach where they enjoyed entertaining, attending theater, dining out, and watching their grandchildren grow up. Marvin became a skilled photographer and enjoyed capturing his many trips to exotic places including the Amazon, Africa and Antarctica. An avid sports fan, he loved watching and attending Devils, Yankees and Rutgers football and basketball games with his children and friends.
Marvin is survived by his partner, Susette Schwartz; his children, Jason (Kristin), Brian, and Laura (Michael) Brauth; his sister, Bonnie (Steven) Greer; and his niece and nephew, Brittany (Zachary) Greer, and Landon (Samantha) Greer. He was the adoring grandfather of Carson and Cole Brauth, Miles and Ayden Varbero, Sydney Hurley and Mollie Holdom. He was also very active in the lives of Susette's children, Alexis (Tom) Varbero and Dana (Robert) Vetrecin, treating them with the same love he did his own children.
Marvin lived a good, full and happy life. May he forever rest in peace.
The family will receive mourners at 12:00 Noon at the Flynn and Son Funeral Home, 23 Ford Avenue, Fords, NJ 08863 on Friday, April 23, 2021. A funeral service will be held at 12:30. Interment will be private.
