Martin
Spernal
June 10, 1954 – December 20, 2024
It is with deep sorrow that we announce the passing of Martin Spernal, age 70, of Edison, New Jersey, who left us on December 20, 2024. Born to Raymond and Josephine Spernal, both of whom predeceased him, Martin was a loving husband, father, grandfather, brother, and friend.
Martin was married to his devoted wife, Maureen, for 47 years. Together, they built a life full of love, laughter, and cherished memories. He was the proud father of Jack Spernal, who, along with his wife Kait, and their son Grady, brought immeasurable joy to Martin's life. His love for his grandson Grady was evident to all who knew him. Martin delighted in every moment spent with Grady and was always eager to talk about his latest milestones, accomplishments, and adventures. The bond between them was a source of great pride and joy for Martin, and he found tremendous fulfillment in being a grandfather.
Martin grew up in Edison, where he lived most of his life. He graduated from Monmouth University and went on to have a successful career as an accountant. After retiring, Martin embraced the freedom to enjoy life's simple pleasures, including spending time with his family, traveling, fishing, and enjoying his favorite music, especially Bruce Springsteen. He had recently returned from a memorable trip to England and Ireland with Maureen, Jack, Kait, and Grady, a journey filled with love and laughter that will be forever treasured.
A lifelong fan of both the Mets and the Jets, Martin shared countless Sundays with his son Jack, attending Jets games for over 30 years. He enjoyed the camaraderie of these outings, and his passion for his teams was a special bond he shared with Jack.
Martin is survived by his wife Maureen, son Jack, daughter-in-law Kait, grandson Grady, and his siblings: Ann Zsiga, Christine Minsavage, Tom, Paul, and Joe Spernal. He was also deeply loved by many nieces and nephews, all of whom will remember him with great affection.
Martin's warmth, kindness, and sense of humor will be deeply missed by all who knew him. His legacy lives on through the love he shared with his family and the moments of joy he created in his lifetime.
