Obituary

Marie O’Mullan, 86, of Fords, passed away peacefully at home on June 2, 2026 surrounded by the love of her family and friends.

Born in Orange, New Jersey, Marie grew up in a large and loving family with four brothers and seven sisters. It was in her hometown that she met her grammar school sweetheart, John “Johnny” O’Mullan. They married and built a beautiful life together in Fords, where they resided for nearly 60 years.

A proud first-generation Italian American, Marie cherished her heritage and the rich traditions that shaped her life. She had a remarkable gift for creating a gourmet meal from whatever ingredients she had on hand. For Marie, cooking was more than preparing food, it was her way of expressing love.

For many years, Sunday dinners at Marie’s home were a treasured family tradition. Her children and grandchildren eagerly looked forward to gathering around her table each week to share delicious meals, stories, laughter, and companionship. These special gatherings became the heart of family life and the memories created around those Sunday dinners will remain a cherished part of her legacy.

Family was the center of Marie’s world. She fiercely loved her family and friends and found her greatest joy in bringing people together. One of her most cherished traditions was the annual O’Mullan Thanksgiving celebration. For 54 years, family members gathered at the American Legion to share a Thanksgiving meal and celebrate the blessings of family.

Marie was the beloved wife of the late John “Johnny” O’Mullan. She was the devoted mother of Donna O’Mullan Raia and her husband, Salvatore Raia, of Basking Ridge, and John P. O’Mullan and his wife, Jennifer Conyack O’Mullan, of Colonia. Affectionately known as “Grammy” to her grandchildren, she was the cherished grandmother of Alexandra “Allie” Raia and her husband, Jack Blunk; Cassondra “Cassie” Raia; and Thomas “Tommy” O’Mullan, all of whom brought joy to her life.

Marie is survived by her loving sisters, Ann Manna and Catherine O’Connor. She was predeceased by her siblings Carol Osterman, Dolores Williams, Louise D’Allessio, Adeline Patinia, Elsie Cushman, James Manna, Anthony Manna, Patsy Manna, and Carmen Manna. She is also survived by many beloved nieces and nephews; her lifelong friend and best buddy, Bette Williams; her cherished in-laws the O’Mullans; and many dear friends whose lives were enriched by her love, kindness, and friendship.

Visitation for family and friends will take place on Friday, June 5, 2026, from 4:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. at Flynn and Son / Mitruska Funeral Home, 23 Ford Avenue, Fords, New Jersey.

A funeral service will be held on Saturday, June 6, 2026, at 10:00 a.m. at Flynn and Son / Mitruska Funeral Home, followed by a 10:30 a.m. Funeral Liturgy at Our Lady of Peace Roman Catholic Church, 620 Amboy Avenue, Fords.

Interment will follow at Gate of Heaven Cemetery in East Hanover, New Jersey.
