Marie G. Gironda, 75, of Menlo Park Terrace, Woodbridge Twp, NJ passed peacefully on Friday, February 13, 2026 at the JFK Medical Center in Edison, NJ.
Born in Jersey City and formerly of Bayonne, she had resided in Menlo Park Terrace since 1982.
Marie graduated Bayonne High School in Bayonne, NJ with the "Class of 1968."
She received her BA in English Education and Latin, and MA in English Literature at Rutgers University, NCAS and had attended Drew University for post-graduate studies.
Marie retired in 2012 as a high school teacher at University High School in Newark, NJ, teaching English and Latin with a career spanning 40 years.
After her retirement, she was an online professor of the Education Masters Program at The University of Southern California (USC) in Los Angeles, CA.
In her spare time, Marie loved to travel, was an avid reader, and enjoyed art appreciation.
She was communicant of Our Lady of Peace RC Church in Fords, NJ where she served as a Eucharistic minister, taught CCD, and was a member of the Columbiettes.
Marie was predeceased by beloved father, John Misita.
She leaves behind her beloved husband of 51 years, Michael Gironda; her beloved son, Matthew Gironda, and his wife, Kristen of Edison, NJ; her beloved daughter, Megan Gironda of Hopatcong, NJ; her two cherished grandchildren, Alex and Ava; her beloved mother, Mary Misita; and her two dear sisters, Sophie Dargoltz of Largo, FL, and Lorraine Wilkowski of Jackson, NJ. She is also survived by several nieces and nephews.
Visitation will be on Thursday, February 19, 2026 from 2-4 pm and 7-9 pm at the Flynn and Son/Mitruska Funeral Home, 23 Ford Ave. Fords, NJ 08863.
Members of the Our Lady of Peace Columbiettes will meet to pay respects at 3 pm Thursday at the funeral home.
Funeral services will begin on Friday, February 20, 2026, at 11:30 a.m. from the Flynn and Son/Mitruska Funeral Home, followed by a 12 noon Funeral Liturgy at Our Lady of Peace, RC Church in Fords, NJ. Entombment will follow in Woodbridge Memorial Gardens Mausoleum, in Woodbridge, NJ.
In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made in her memory to the St. Jude's Children's Research Hospital, 262 Danny Thomas Place, Memphis, TN 38105, stjude.org.
