Maribel Rivera Colgan, age 52, passed away peacefully, at home in Perth Amboy on Monday, February 22, 2021. Born on August 28, 1968, in Perth Amboy, Maribel was a graduate of Perth Amboy High School, Class of 1986. She went on to work as a paralegal for George Otlowski, Esq. and Gill & Chamas and took great pride in her work.

But Maribel was more than her work. She was joy, she was fun, she was glitz and glam. She was everything you would hope for in a daughter, a sister, an aunt, and a friend. She could make you laugh on a dime, repeating stories you had heard over and over never letting them go stale. Her laughter was uniquely her, but contagious ever the same.  She was the first one on the dance floor and the last one off. Maribel knew what it was to have a good time and look good doing it.

Maribel was and is an inspiration.

Her faith was a key aspect of her life. She was an active communicant of Our Lady of Fatima Church for many years, where she also served as a Youth Minister educating and encouraging the young people.

May her Heaven be a beautiful Jamaican beach with a cool breeze, bottomless apple martinis, and a spacious dance floor. May she be forever joined by those who passed before her, especially her mother, Irene Rivera.

Maribel is survived by her father, Herminio Rivera, of Hazlet; two brothers, Herminio Rivera and his wife, Janet, of Hazlet and Daniel Rivera, and his wife, Robin Rivera, of Florida; and her sister, Diana Amaya and her husband, Juan Carlos, of Pennsylvania. She will be lovingly remembered by her five nieces, five nephews, her loving great-nephew and all who knew her, including her dear friend Lourdes Soto of North Brunswick.

Visitation will be held at Flynn & Son Funeral Home, 23 Ford Avenue, Fords New Jersey 08863 on Thursday February 25, 2021, from 5:00-8:00 PM. All services will begin Friday 9:15 AM at the funeral home, followed by a 10 AM Funeral Liturgy at our Lady of Fatima Church in Perth Amboy. Entombment will be at Resurrection Cemetery, Piscataway, New Jersey.
