Obituary

Marianne Mc Garrity, 68, of Metuchen and Harvey Cedars, passed away on Thursday, May 21, 2015, at JFK Medical Center in Edison. She was born in New York City and has resided in Metuchen for the past 37 years.

Marianne was a graduate of Trenton State Teacher's College and she taught in the Edison Township schools for her entire career. Marianne taught physical education at Thomas Jefferson Middle School, Edison High School and John Marshall Elementary School, teaching all 13 grades. She leaves behind a generation of students whom she loved and who loved her. She was a special teacher because she taught children, not a subject. Her students were her children.

Marianne's heart was in Harvey Cedars where she spent over 40 summers with her best friend, Barbara Kretzer of Greensboro, NC, enjoyed the positive ion of the beach and passing on to her family countless memories . She was a dedicated member of The Garden Club of Long Beach Island and the Barnegat Light Yacht Club. She leaves behind too many friends to count, especially her Bocce ladies. Marianne was an avid doll collector, a hobby that she shared with her doll club friends from Metro Dolls, Young at Heart, Keep Sake and the Princeton Doll & Toy Museum.

Marianne is survived by her husband of 36 years, James S. Finne, and her beloved Siamese cats, Moe and Lulu. She is also survived by three sisters, Marjorie Greendyk of Budd Lake, Helen Smith of Randolph, and Amanda Sheehan of Lawrenceville. She was "Auntie Mar" to her many many nieces, nephews, great nieces and grand nephews.

We will remember Marianne best in the words of a Harvey Cedars friend: "Her spunk will live on."

A Celebration for a Wonderful Life will be held on Sunday, June 28, 2015 at 2:00 PM at the Barnegat Light Museum & Community Garden, 501 Central Avenue, Barnegat Light, NJ 08006.  Parking is available at Barnegat Light State Park.
