Maria J. Hernandez, 86, of Perth Amboy died Friday August 19, 2022, at her home surrounded by her loving family.

Maria was born and raised in Santiago, Dominican Republic to the late Jesus Batista and Regina Hernandez. Maria and her family immigrated to the United States in 1967 to have a new life. Maria was always a loving kind soul who would help anyone in need. She knew her calling was at home raising her children, she took her faith seriously and was a communicant of Our Lady of Fatima Church in Perth Amboy for many years. In her free time, Maria enjoyed spending time with her family and volunteering at her church.

She is predeceased by seven of her siblings. Maria is survived by her caring husband of 67 years, Jose Hernandez. She also leaves behind her children, Juan Hernandez and wife, Martina, Laura Marte, Lucia Aguilar, Ramon Hernandez, Josefina Hernandez, Melania Torres and husband, Josue, Rosarita Jorge and husband, Ruben, Maria Fazzlari and husband, Carmelo; her brother and sister, Alberto and Agustin; 20 grandchildren; 18 great-grandchildren; and many nieces nephews and extended relatives and close friends. She will be dearly missed.

Visitation will be held on Monday August 22, 2022, from 4 p.m. to 8 p.m., in the Flynn and Son Funeral Home, 420 East Avenue Perth Amboy, NJ 08861. A prayer service will begin at 7 p.m. in the funeral home. A funeral Mass will be held on Tuesday August 23, 2022, at 10 a.m., at Our Lady of Fatima Church, 380 Smith St, Perth Amboy, NJ 08861, friends and family are welcome to gather in the funeral home starting at 9 a.m. Burial to follow at Alpine Cemetery, Perth Amboy.

In lieu of flowers memorial donations may be made in Maria's memory to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital, 501 St. Jude Place, Memphis, TN 38105.
