Obituary

Margaret Muzikar, 96, of Fords, passed away peacefully on February 23, 2023, at home surrounded by her family.  She was born in Newark and lived in Fords for 50 plus years.  Margaret was a graduate of South Side High School, Newark, a communicant of Our Lady of Peace RC Church, Fords, and a Bookkeeper for Breakstone Foods, in Linden. When she was asked about her job, she would proudly say she was the only woman in the office and loved her work.

It is hard to sum up 96 years, especially for someone who saw so much and overcame so much, but this is how she will be remembered by those that loved her. She was proud of her Catholic faith! She was great with numbers! She had a love for music, Broadway plays, Opera and reading. She was set in her ways and if she didn't like something you knew about it! Regardless of what life threw at her, when others would've struggled to see the positive side of life, her outlook was forever sunny, always seeing the beauty in the world. She loved long drives and would "ooh" and "ahh" at the landscape! When she was younger, she was the fun aunt! She would play Chinese checkers, checkers, rummy and Cootie with her nieces, grandnieces and grandnephews for hours! Aunt Margie's rule for rummy was you had to count the cards numeric value for your score, no 5's and 10's on her watch to make counting easier, and she would say "it will help you with your math!" To this day when one of us plays rummy, we think of her. At every holiday, celebration, special occasion, when we all gather around the table to pray, she would have the last word—"Bless the hands that prepared the food and bless the people that will eat it." She loved her desserts, especially German chocolate cake, and never missed a night without having something sweet and something hot to drink like hot chocolate! She loved French toast or waffles on the weekends. Everything was "scrumptious." She relearned to walk THREE times and was adamant this last time around she would be able to overcome her injury. She never lost faith and would tell anyone who would listen! She had a stack of prayer cards she would pray every day and would pray for whomever needed it. And we knew her prayers were powerful! During the last few years of her life, she had quite the TV routine—mass from 12-1 pm on EWTN, Divine Mercy at 3 pm followed by the Rosary and her nightly routine was World News Tonight with David Muir, Jeopardy and MASH. At 10:00 pm, no matter what else she was watching, she requested we put on Rizzoli & Isles and we can't forget Hallmark! At most meals, she would ask "to save the rest for tomorrow." She loved her family beyond measure and her family loved her just as much in return.

Margaret was predeceased by her parents, Stephen, and Mary Muzikar, and ten brothers and sisters. She is in Heaven, happy to be reunited with all her loved ones who have passed on before her.

She is survived by many nieces and nephews, great nieces and great nephews, and great-great nieces and great-great nephews. It made her so happy when her great-great nieces and great-great nephews would stop in and say hello!
