Obituary

Margaret ("Margie") Maher Heffner, 82, of Edison, New Jersey, passed away peacefully on March 9, 2012, embraced by the love of her four children. Margie was born and raised in Perth Amboy, New Jersey, where she lived until moving to Woodbridge after marrying Edward Heffner Sr., her high school sweetheart. The couple later moved to Edison where they resided for most of their 39 years of marriage. Margie was a graduate of St. Mary's High School and The Washington School for Secretaries and worked for Dun and Bradstreet in Newark until the birth of her first child. Years later, Margie resumed work outside of the home with the Middlesex County Board of Elections, where she worked for 16 years. She retired in 1990. A past member of Saint James Church in Woodbridge and Guardian Angels Church in Edison, Margie was an active member of the Rosary Altar Societies of both parishes. A devoted daughter, sister, wife, mother, and grandmother, Margie was preceded in death by her husband, Edward; her parents, Margaret Elizabeth and Patrick Daniel Maher; and her sister, Patricia Maher Harth. She is survived by her four children: Christine Heffner Steinberg and Edward Heffner, Jr., both of Flemington, and Michael and Donna Heffner, both of Edison, as well as six grandchildren: Franklyn and Kathryn Steinberg and Mary, Theodore, Charles, and Jacqueline Heffner. Margie was a gentle and vivacious person whose quick wit and warm, generous nature made a lasting impression on all who were blessed to have known and loved her. She lived every day with a focus on her values: faith, family, friends -- and fun! Her legacy of love and laughter will live on. Funeral Services will be on Friday, March 16, at 10:00 am from the Flynn & Son/Koyen Funeral Home, 319 Amboy Avenue, Metuchen, NJ 08840, followed by a 10:30 am Funeral Liturgy at Guardian Angels Church, Edison. Interment will follow in St. Mary's Cemetery, Perth Amboy. Visitation will be on Thursday, March 15, from 2:00-4:00 and 7:00-9:00 pm.
