Margaret Elizabeth
Cairns "Peggy"
December 23, 1943 – March 14, 2025
Margaret Elizabeth Cairns "Peggy," of Suffern, NY passed away peacefully on Friday, March 14, 2025 surrounded by her loving husband and children. She was 81.
Margaret was born and raised in Perth Amboy, the daughter of the late Margaret and Ambrose Fagyas. She was a graduate of Rider University. After college, she went on to marry her college sweetheart, Donald, on August 17, 1968. She cherished her time as a full-time mom raising her children. She later went to work in the billing department of the Good Samaritan Hospital in Suffern, NY.
She was an incredibly devoted mom and grandmother and her greatest joy in life was spending time with her family. She loved to cook — Hungarian dishes such as chicken paprikash, tarhonya and stuffed cabbage — were her specialties. She loved baking Christmas cookies and celebrating holidays and birthdays with her family. She loved Elvis, anything with mocha in it and going to Broadway shows. She enjoyed playing board games such as Monopoly junior with her grandson, Finley (and chess - even though Finley would always win!) and dressing up as princesses with her granddaughter, Darcey. She had her hair done every Friday and loved to go shopping with her daughter; trips to the Short Hills mall were her favorite and lunch at Nordstrom Cafe was a must!
Margaret had a bright and vibrant personality and zest for life. She loved traveling and spent time crisscrossing Europe with her husband Donald as newlyweds and later created beautiful memories on vacation with her family - Hawaii, Las Vegas, the Bahamas and Disney World were among her favorites. Memorably, she almost did not make it to the Bahamas after noticing the small plane she was set to fly on had propellers. Following a personal tour of the plane by the pilot himself, Margaret agreed to hop on and thankfully landed before a large rainstorm hit. Her most favorite place to visit, however, was Ocean City, Maryland, where she and Donald had a second home. Margaret could be often be found walking along the beach with her family, sitting on the deck enjoying live music during happy hour or ordering fried flounder at Warren's Station.
Margaret is survived by her husband, Donald, her children, Kellie (David Lloyd) and Todd, and her grandchildren, Finley and Darcey.
