Obituary

Lujza Bognar, 93, of Woodbridge, NJ passed peacefully on Sunday, June 9, 2024 at St. Joseph's Senior Home in Woodbridge.

Lujza was born March 23, 1931 in Szil, Hungary. She left Hungary in 1956 during the Hungarian Revolution, spending two years in Montreal, Canada awaiting the approval of her immigrant visa to the United States. While in Montreal, she married her husband of 30 years. She settled in Perth Amboy, NJ for 18 years, followed by a residency in the Sewaren section of Woodbridge Township for 43 years, prior to her relocation to St. Joseph's, where she was cared for lovingly. She was a retired assembler with American National Can Company of Edison.

Lujza had been a communicant of Our Lady of Hungary Church of the Most Holy Name of Jesus Parish in Perth Amboy for many years and was a member of the church choir and the Altar Rosary Society at the Church. In addition, she was a passionate gardener, and an outstanding cook, showcasing her exquisite Hungarian cuisine. Lujza was also an avid bingo player as well as a regular volunteer at the Hungarian American Citizen Club, where she participated in the preparation and sale of delectable homemade baked goods. Lujza was a loving wife, mother, and grandmother who enjoyed spending time with her family and friends. She will be deeply missed.

She was predeceased by her dear husband, Antal Bognar, who died in 1988, as well as her six siblings. Lujza leaves behind her two beloved daughters, Susan Morrell and her husband Harold of Palmer Township, PA and Mary Ann Axelsen and her husband Robert of Lebanon Township, NJ, as well as her six cherished grandchildren; Robert, Joshua, Michael, Jessica, Steven, and Eric.

Visitation will take place on Friday, June 14, 2024 from 4:00pm – 7:00pm at the Flynn and Son Funeral Home, 23 Ford Avenue, Fords, NJ, where funeral services will begin on Saturday, June 15, 2024 at 9:15 am, followed by a 10:00am Funeral Liturgy at Most Holy Name of Jesus Parish - Holy Trinity Church, 315 Lawrie Street, Perth Amboy.

Interment will follow at Our Lady of Hungary Cemetery, 275 New Brunswick Avenue, Fords, NJ.

In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made in her memory to either St Joseph's Senior Home, 3 St. Joseph's Terrace, Woodbridge NJ  07095 or the Parkinson's Foundation at parkinson.org.
