Lillian C. "Penny" Butler, 91, of Metuchen, passed peacefully, on Wednesday, January 4, 2017, the day after her 91 ^st birthday, at the Haven Hospice Unit at JFK Medical Center, Edison.

Born in Bronx, NY, formerly of NY City, she had resided in Metuchen since 2012.

She was a graduate of Fordham University, and received her masters degree in Teaching at C.W. Post.

She was a retired school teacher with the NY City Bd. of Education. She began her teaching career after raising six children, at the Colonial Church of Bayside, Queens, NY as a teacher's aid in the preschool program.

She was a communicant of St. Francis Cathedral Metuchen and enjoyed writing poetry, and was an accomplished author, publishing two books.

She was predeceased by her beloved husband, Robert R. Butler, who died in 1997, and her son, Robert who died just last November 21, 2016.

Lillian leaves behind, her two sons, Kevin & his wife, Julie, of South Plainfield and Bruce & his wife, Mariia of Stony Point, NY.,  her three daughters, Christine Foster of Piscataway, Rosemary Butler and her husband William, of Bordentown, and Alison Butler of Metuchen, 8 grandchildren and 11 great grandchildren.

Visitation will be on Sunday, January 8, 2017 from 2-4 & 7-9 pm at the Flynn and Son/Koyen Funeral Home, 319 Amboy Ave. Metuchen, NJ 08840.

Funeral services will begin on Monday, January 9, 2017, at 9:45 a.m. from the Flynn and Son/Koyen Funeral Home, followed by a 10:15 a.m. Funeral Liturgy at St. Francis Cathedral, Metuchen.

Entombment will follow in Resurrection Cemetery, Piscataway.
