Laszlo "Larry" Karpati,78, of Edison died Thursday April 1, 2010 at JFK Medical Center in Edison.
Born in Baja,Hungary, he migrated to the United States in 1956 without speaking the language. Mr. Karpati resided in Edison for the past 48 years.
He was a successful business owner and operated Larry's Produce (Karpati's Produce of
Fords) with his wife, daughter and son-in-law on King George Rd. in Fords for 32 years before building his own building on New Brunswick Ave. and operating a wholesale produce company until his retirement in 2007 after 48 years.
Laszlo loved his trips to Atlantic City, and especially enjoyed watching his grandchildren excel in their sports. He loved his greenhouse and all of his gardening. He also loved and owned trotter race horses.
Surviving family members include his beloved wife of 47 years, Barbara, 2 daughters: Lorie Tudor and her husband Robert of Fords, and Lisa Karpati-Reilly of Joliet, Illinois. One son, Larry, of Avenel; 7 grandchildren: Victoria, Rebecca, Amanda, Samantha, Nicholas, Zachree, and Clarisa; mother-in-law, Louise Filliger, residing with Laszlo and Barbara; sister-in-law and brother-in-law Carol and Mike Filo of Manchester; and
several nieces and nephews. He will be greatly loved and missed by all who knew him.
Funeral services are scheduled for Tuesday, April 6, 2010 11:00 a.m. from Flynn and Son Funeral Home, 23 Ford Ave., Fords, NJ, 08863. Burial at St. Gertrude Cemetery.
Visitation will be on Monday, April 5, 2010, from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m.
