Obituary

Kenneth L. Thum, 93, of Edison, passed away on December 1, 2021, at JFK Medical Center, Edison. Born in Elizabeth to Louis and Mildred Thum, Ken lived in Edison for 61 years. A Carpenter for Murray Construction for 39 years before retiring in 1990. A member of the Eastern Millwrights Local #715, out of Elizabeth. Prior to that he worked for Star Construction.

After building a two-family house for his parents, himself, and his wife, then proceeded to build a house at the shore. Once outgrowing the two-family house, he then built two houses next to each other in Edison, one for his parents and one for his own family. One of the many boats that he had built was a 24 foot cabin cruiser that was featured in a newspaper article because the fence had to be taken down to have it removed from the yard.

Ken enjoyed crabbing and spending time with the family on the water in one of the various boats owned over the years and working on the numerous cars acquired over the years. Always attempting to fix anything that broke rather than throwing it out. An accomplished musician, playing the saxophone, clarinet, trumpet, and drums. He was a family man who enjoyed spending time with the great grandchildren.

Ken is survived by his wife Jackie of 72 years, two daughters Gail Woerner and her husband Jerry, and Cheryl Snell and her husband Rich, and four grandchildren:  Jennifer Guthlein and her husband Matt, Kyle Woerner and his wife Jaclyn, Kristin Cordero and her husband Tom and Kenny Snell and his fiancé Cassidy Quinn and seven great grandchildren, Dylan, Lainey, Finnigan, Carina, Ryan and Kenny Jr.  He is predeceased by their son Glenn and great grandchild Thomas John and parents Louis Thum and Mildred (Sofield) Thum.

Visitation will be held on Tuesday, December 7, from 5-8 PM at Flynn and Son / Koyen Funeral Home, 319 Amboy Avenue, Metuchen.
