Obituary

Kenneth M. Benus, 80 of Monroe, passed away at 5:17am on April 14, 2015 at the Elms of Cranbury Rehabilitation.

Ken Benus was born in Perth Amboy, NJ on May 7, 1934. He graduated from Perth Amboy High School, Class of '51, and earned his Bachelor of Education, Master of Science in Education degrees and ABD at Rutgers University.

Ken served in the Army Security Agency in Hawaii from 1955-59, working on highly classified espionage missions during the Cold War; taught Counseling Psychology at Rutgers Graduate School of Education in New Brunswick; Psychological Counseling at St. Peters College, Jersey City in the 1960's; and was Director of Guidance and Career Resources and Assistant Superintendant of Schools in Asbury Park, NJ, working there for 22 years until his retirement in 1992.

Ken lived in Perth Amboy during his youth; Hawaii for three years; Colts Neck, NJ during the 1960's; spent ten summers in Cork, Ireland; 20 years of winters in Arizona, but always returned to New Jersey, spending the last 8 summers on Long Beach Island, also living in Bayonne, and finally in the Renaissance Community in Monroe, NJ.

A strong, loving, compassionate, extremely intelligent, competitive and scintillating man, Ken was a trophy-winning golfer as well as a bocce champion in the Renaissance Community in Monroe Township, and all-round sportsman from his youngest days, pitching for the US Army Baseball team during his years in Hawaii.

Predeceased by his parents, Michael Benus and Jean Penka Benus formerly of Perth Amboy.

Survived by Joan Pucci Benus, his wife of 59 years; his son, David and his wife Manoli of Bayonne; his daughter, Lani and her husband, Chris Weinell of Oro Valley, AZ. Ken had 6 grandchildren: Ryan and Kathryn Eady, Tatiana and Michael Benus and Michael and Alexandra Weinell.

A memorial services will be held 10 AM this Saturday, April 18, at the Queenship of Mary Roman Catholic Church, 16 Dey Road in Plainsboro, NJ.

He will have our eternal love and admiration, and will be greatly missed forever.
