Obituary

Katherine "Kosh" Ekalo Szaroleta, 95, entered into eternal rest on October 6, 2017 at the New Jersey Veterans Home at Menlo Park, Edison.

A lifelong resident of Perth Amboy, she attended its local public schools.  She enlisted in the Women's Auxiliary Army Corps and served her country during World War II.  She was a member and past commander of Perth Amboy Post #45, the American Legion.  Prior to her marriage she was the owner and operator of the American Beauty Shop in Perth Amboy, and in later years she was employed by the custodial department at Perth Amboy High School.  She was a former member of St. John Paul II Parish/St. Stephen's Church, Perth Amboy, and a current member of the Altar-rosary Society of Our Lady of Peace Church, Fords.  She was a silver pin  (25-year) recipient presented by the Alumni Ladies Auxiliary of the Orchard Lake Schools and Seminary in Michigan.

Mrs. Szaroleta was predeceased by her parents, Charles and Anna Bohach Ekalo; her beloved husband, Leonard, who died in 1999; and her siblings, Barbara Faryniak, Eva Gadek, Mary Buck, Theresa Price, Anne Monganiello, Michael Ekalo, Nicholas Ekalo, and Helen Jaramillo.

She is survived by two sons, Msgr. Andrew Szaroleta of Parlin, and Allen Szaroleta and his wife Nancy, of North Plainfield, her daughter Nanette Hawes and her husband John of Averill Park, NY; one grandson, Matthew Hawes and his wife, Johnna; three granddaughters, Natalie Szaroleta, Katherine Hawes, and Daria Szaroleta; two great granddaughters, Sascha Hawes and Vienna Hawes.

Viewing will take place on Wednesday from 2-4 pm and 6-8 pm at the Flynn and Son Funeral Home 23 Ford Avenue, Fords.  The Mass of Christian Burial will take place on Thursday at 10:30 am in the Church of Our Lady of Peace, Fords. Interment will follow at the Ukrainian Assumption Cemetery, in the Hopelawn section of Woodbridge.  In lieu of flowers, donations in her name may be made to SS. Cyril & Methodius Seminary, 3535 Commerce Road, Orchard Lake, Mich. 48324.
