Obituary

Judith G. Wirtenberg, age 93, passed away peacefully on January 13, 2025, at Robert Wood Johnson University Hospital in New Brunswick, NJ.

Born on May 26, 1932, in New York City to the late Alexander and Frieda Gordon, Judy was raised in Westchester, NY. After living in Connecticut, Virginia, and Manhattan, she settled in East Brunswick, NJ, where she and her husband raised their family. For the past several years, she was a resident of Monroe Township, NJ.

A lifelong learner, Judy earned her Bachelor's degree from Syracuse University and her Master's degree from Rutgers University. She dedicated her professional life to education, serving as a teacher for students with learning disabilities in the Monroe Township School District. Even after her retirement, her passion for teaching continued as she volunteered her time in the New Brunswick public schools.

Judy's greatest joy was her family, followed closely by her adventurous spirit. She shared her husband's passion for global travel, and together they explored all seven continents. They sought out destinations that piqued their curiosity, preferring to walk and engage directly with the local people and cultures they visited.

Aside from her family, her greatest passion was the game of bridge. Her skill and determination earned her the prestigious title of Diamond Life Master within the American Contract Bridge League (ACBL). She traveled to tournaments across the country and took great pride in ranking within the top percentiles of the league.

Judy was predeceased by her beloved husband of 59 years, Dr. Joseph D. Wirtenberg, in 2015.

She is survived by her two daughters, Susan Jeric (Randy); and Elaine Wirtenberg-Sacco ; and Joe. She also leaves behind her cherished grandchildren, Sarah (Dan) and Alex; and her step-grandchildren, Nicole, Joe, Matthew, and Brandon.

Funeral services will be private.
