Joseph John "Sonny" Luckus, 79, passed away on February 3, 2014, at JFK Haven Hospice. Born in Fords, he most spent most of his life in Edison. He was co-owner of Luckus Trucking and Excavating Co., Inc. with his brother, John, for the past 43 years, retiring in 2004. Prior to owning his business, he was employed by Delano & Smith as a Heavy Equipment Operator. Sonny was a communicant of Our Lady of Peace Church. He was an avid musician and fisherman. He was an original member of the band Tommy Luckus and His Hounddogs, a member of the Keasbey Boat Club, and a motorsports enthausiast. He enjoyed circle track stock car racing which he shared with his son, Joe.
Sonny is survived by his wife Marie V. Luckus, to whom he was married for 53 years; his son, Joseph A. Luckus of Edison; his daughter, Nancy Lapierre and her husband, Guy, of Old Bridge; 2 granddaughters, Shelby and Cassidy; 4 brothers: John of Perth Amboy, Thomas of Metuchen, Michael of Edison, and George of Janesville, WI; 2 sisters: MaryAnn Luckus of Edison and Loretta DellaPietro of Edison; 17 nieces and nephews; and 17 great-nieces and nephews.
Visitation will be on Thursday from 2-4 and 7-9 pm. Funeral services will be held on Friday at 11:30 am at the Flynn and Son Funeral Home, 23 Ford Avenue, Fords, NJ 08863 followed by a 12 Noon Funeral Liturgy at Our Lady of Peace RC Church, Fords. Interment will be in Resurrection Cemetery.
