Obituary

Joseph Tatcher Harris, M.D. 80, of Boynton Beach, FL, previously of Quogue, NY, passed away February 11, 2011, following a brief illness.

Prominent physician, proud and loving father and grandfather. He is survived by his son Arthur and daughters Abby (Bruce), Pamela (Tom) and Julie (Jeff), and his grandchildren, Arielle, Olivia, Alexander, Matthew, Martin, Max, Sam, Lauren, Blair and Harrison. He was born in Philadelphia and grew up in New York City. He attended the Bronx High School of Science and was awarded a basketball scholarship to Rutgers College, graduating in 1952. He then attended The Chicago Medical School, receiving his M.D. degree in 1956. After an internship at Kings County Hospital, he entered military service, completing his duties at the rank of Captain in the Army. He then pursued specialty training in Urology at the East Orange VA Hospital. Dr. Harris spent his entire professional career in the private practice of Urology in New Jersey, based initially in Perth Amboy and later expanding to Edison. During his career he served as Chief of Surgery at John F. Kennedy Hospital and Chief of Urology at Perth Amboy General Hospital. He was a lover of art, classical music, travel, fine wine, dogs and a devoted booster and benefactor of Rutgers University. He was blessed with wit, humor and generosity and had remarkable business acumen for a physician.

Services will be held 10:30 AM Monday, February 14th at Flynn & Son Funeral Home, 319 Amboy Ave Metuchen, N.J. Interment will follow at Shaarey Tefiloh Cemetery, Perth Amboy.
