Joseph R.
Ferino
Nov 28, 1942 — May 8, 2019
Joseph R. Ferino (Joe), age 76, passed away on May 8, 2019. He was born in Brooklyn, NY on November 28, 1942, to Gus and Caroline (DePietro) Ferino. He was a 1960 graduate of Lafayette High School in Brooklyn, NY, and attended Pace University in New York City. On February 15, 1970, he married Murielle Ruhland, with whom he had two sons, Joseph (44) and Scott (39). Joe's career in the publishing industry spanned over forty years, mostly at John Wiley & Sons, where he was corporate director of credit and collections, foreign and domestic. He served as president of the New York Credit Association and was on the board of directors of the American Booksellers Association.
He and Murielle resided and raised their family in Metuchen and Edison, NJ, ultimately retiring to the shore to realize Joe's dream of living on the water where he could share his passions of boating, fishing and crabbing with his children and grandchildren. Joe was a devoted husband and father, and enjoyed nothing more than spending time with his family, for whom he spared no expense, effort or time.
Joe will be remembered as loving and kind; his generosity knew no bounds (often imploring, with an infectious smile, "don't hold back!"). Joe grew up an avid fan of the Brooklyn Dodgers; he would later adopt the New York Mets and pass on his love of the Mets, for better or worse, to two successive generations.
He is survived by his beloved wife of 49 years, Murielle; sons and daughters-in-law Joseph (Heather) and Scott (Jessica); and grandchildren Owen (13), Jack (11), Thomas (7), Caroline (4) and Henry (1). Joe is predeceased by his older brother, Anthony.
The family will greet friends and family members from 11:00 am to 2:00 pm on Saturday, May 11, 2019 at Flynn & Son Funeral Home in 319 Amboy Ave. Metuchen, NJ, to reminisce and celebrate Joe's life.
