Obituary

Joseph A. Billich, 84, of Edison, passed into the hands of the Lord on Tuesday, November 13, 2018 at JFK Hospice in Edison.

He was born on July 22, 1934, in Perth Amboy, and resided most of his life in Edison.

Joe was a master carpenter who built many custom homes throughout New Jersey. He later joined the Carpenters Union and worked in the heavy construction field, working for Mohawk Constructors, Sprenger Corporation, and Henkels & McCoy, building bridges, highways, electrical tower footings, mile-long tunnels in Aberdeen Proving Grounds, Maryland using Soil-Stabilization techniques, among many other projects.

He was also commissioned to design and build a scale replica of the Sandy Hook Lighthouse which was displayed at Liberty State Park.

He was a Viet Nam Veteran serving in the US Navy as part of the Seabees, stationed in Bermuda, he also belonged to many organizations, such as; The United Brotherhood of Carpenters, Masonic Lodge Mt. Zion #135, Danish Brotherhood Lodge #46, Scottish Rite, VASA Lodge Lykan #507, EAL Flying Fisherman's Club, along with being a member of St. Stephen's Evangelical Lutheran Church, in South Plainfield.

Hunting and fishing were among his favorite activities, along with traveling with his family.

He was fondly known as "Mr. Fix It" as he had an innate gift of selflessness, arriving quickly with the ability to resolve almost any problem.

Affectionately known as "Joe-Bag-O'-Donuts", he routinely showed up with a bag of warm sweets to share.

Joseph was predeceased by his brother William Billich.

He is survived by his beloved wife Joy (nee Christensen) of 61 years, his sons, Roy and his wife Phyllis, of Harmony, and Paul and his wife Michele, of South Plainfield and his cherished grandchildren; Taryn, Ryan, Nicole, and Justin. He also leaves behind many extended family members, especially Bill, Mark, and Tom Billich, Lynne Chavan, and Danny Harkay.

Funeral services will be held on Sunday, November 18th at 1 PM at St. Stephen's Evangelical Lutheran Church, 3145 Park Avenue, in South Plainfield.

Visitation will be Saturday, November 17, 2018 from 1-4 PM at Flynn and Son Funeral Home, 319 Amboy Avenue, in Metuchen, NJ 08840.

In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made in his memory to your favorite charity, or the Danish Sisterhood Scholarship Fund.
