Jose Manuel Diaz, Sr. passed away on Sunday, July 14, 2024 after a sudden illness.

Jose was born in Vega Alta, Puerto Rico. He met the love of his life, Mildred Pena and where married in Perth Amboy, NJ. Together, they had three children, Jose, Jr., Michelle and Jason. The family settled in Perth Amboy, where Jose made his career as a custodial engineer for the Perth Amboy Board of Education until his retirement in 2011. All who knew Jose were graced with his talent as a musician and his generous spirit. Jose was an accomplished guitar player and vocalist and was best known for his ability to sing ballads and a variety of other songs that not only brought life to any gathering, but also evoked a sense of nostalgia in those listening. Jose radiated an energy that was sought out by the various members of his family, friends, church and community at large.

Jose was preceded in death by his parents Miguel Diaz and Trinidad Marrero, and his son Jason in 2011.  He is survived by his beloved wife of 57 years, Mildred; his son Jose M Diaz, Jr. (Kelly); daughter Michelle Diaz; and granddaughters, Julianna, Jordyn and Luciana.

Family and friends may call at the Flynn and Son Funeral Home, 424 East Ave., on Wednesday, July 17, 2024 from 4:00 pm – 9:00 pm.  Services will begin on Thursday, July 18, 2024 at 9:30 am.  A Funeral Liturgy will immediately follow at 10:00 am in La Asuncion Catholic Church, 777 Cortlandt St., Perth Amboy.  Interment will follow in Alpine Cemetery, Perth Amboy.
