John A. White, Sr., 88, of Edison, passed peacefully on Saturday, March 18, 2017 at the Haven Hospice Unit at JFK Medical Center.
Born in Woodbridge, he had resided in Edison for most of his life. He graduated Rutgers University in 1959 with a B.S. Degree in management. He was a veteran of the Korean War serving as a Staff Sgt. with the US Air Force, and had also served in the Air National Guard..
His first job out of college was for Merck & Co., Rahway, as an accountant.
He was the former assistant secretary at Decorated Metal Mfg. Co., Milltown and the former Operations Manager with Raritan Supply Co, Edison, and a former superintendent for the NJ Veterans Home at Menlo Park.
John was a former state vice president of the NJ Jaycees, elected from the Edison Chapter, as a charter member.
He served for 13 years, from 1966-1979, on the Edison Twp. Board of Education and was president the last five years of his term, being the last mayoral appointed president of the board.
He retired in 1992 as vice president of marketing and sales for Zol Zemel, Inc., Plainfield.
He is predeceased by his daughter, Kathleen Kelly White who died in 1960.
Mr. White leaves behind his wife of 59 years, Roberta, his 4 children; Susan B. Sharp-Marino and her husband, Joseph Marino of Toms River, John A. White, Jr. of West Palm Beach, FL.,
Douglas E. White of Branchburg, and Patricia McNally and her husband Tom of Branchburg.,
5 grandchildren; Thomas, Kathleen, Christina, Jenna and Megan and a brother, Donald F. White of Ft. Meyers, FL.
Visitation will be on Tuesday, March 21, 2017 from 2-4 pm, & 7-9 pm, at the Flynn and Son Funeral Home, 23 Ford Ave. Fords, NJ 08863.
Funeral services will begin on Wednesday, March 22, 2017 at 10 a.m. from the Flynn and Son Funeral Home, followed by a 10:30 a.m. Funeral Liturgy at Our Lady of Peace Church, Fords, entombment will follow in Woodbridge Memorial Gardens Mausoleum.
