John J. Wade, 103, of Holmdel, passed away Wednesday, July 30, 2014, at his residence at The Willows, Holmdel. Born in Perth Amboy, he resided in Perth Amboy, Keyport, Matawan, Hazlet, and finally Holmdel. John was a US World War II Navy Seabees Veteran. He was a member of Ironworkers Local 11, Newark, NJ. He had the distinction of having the oldest union book in the Ironworks International and last year received an 85-year service pin, the only one ever given. John joined Local 373, Perth Amboy, as an apprentice in 1928. He served as Recording Secretary, Assistant Business Agent and Business Agent of Local 373, as well as Financial Secretary-Treasurer and Recording Secretary of the Northern New Jersey District Council. John served as President of the Middlesex County Building and Construction Trades Council, Vice President of the Middlesex County and New Jersey State AFL-CIO, and an Executive Board member of the New Jersey Building and Construction Trades Council. He also received three gubernatorial appointments to the Construction Council of the New Jersey Department of Labor. He was a lifetime member of the Eagles fire department and the Elks, both of Perth Amboy.
Son the late John J. and Madeline Wade, he was predeceased by his wife of 47 years, Edna, and a sister, Ruth Schuster. He is survived by his son, John E. and his wife Susan of Colts Neck, his granddaughter, Kimberly Kutschman and her husband Bob of Keyport, his grandson, John and his wife Jennifer of Brick, his grandson, Todd and his wife Dena of Freehold, and his granddaughter, Stephanie Monchik and her husband Peter of Keyport. He also leaves 9 great-grandchildren: Madison, Kimberly, Caitlin, Kyle, Kayla, John III, Delaney, Wade, and Graysen.
Visitation will be Sunday, August 3, 2014, 2-4 and 7-9 PM at Flynn and Son Funeral Home, 424 East Ave. Perth Amboy. Funeral services will be Monday at 10:30 AM at the funeral home. Interment will be in St. Mary's Cemetery, Perth Amboy.
