Obituary

John Rokita, 88, of Fords, entered into eternal rest August 16, 2018, at JFK Hartwyck Nursing and Rehabilitation Center at Oak Tree in Edison. He was born in Swedeland, PA, and grew up in Czechoslovakia, returning to the United States in 1949 and moving to Fords 64 years ago when he wed his loving wife, Alma.

John worked as a Machinist at Ford Motor Co., Prodex, and finally at Texize (Dow Chemical) in Piscataway before retiring.  He was a member of The Ukrainian Catholic Church of the Assumption in Perth Amboy, and a former member of St. Nicholas Byzantine Catholic Church in Edison, where he was a dedicated bingo worker and member of the Holy Name Society. He was also a member of the Slovak American Citizens Club.  John had many hobbies, among them racing pigeons, gardening, and woodworking. He so enjoyed gifting his creations to family and friends.

John was predeceased by Alma, his devoted wife of 63 years, who passed in December of 2017, and his sisters; Anna and Suzanna. He is survived by his children Joann Dezic and her husband Michael of Hillsborough, John David of Egg Harbor City, Thomas of Kissimmiee, FL, and Brian and his wife Cheri of North Woodstock, NH, his sister Mary Kalapos who just celebrated her 100th birthday on August 14th, and his granddaughters; Alyssa, Jacqueline, and Allyson.

Funeral services will be held on Saturday at 9:30 am at the Flynn and Son Funeral Home 23 Ford Avenue, Fords, followed by a 10 am liturgy at Ukrainian Catholic Church. Interment will be in Holy Trinity Cemetery. Visitation is Friday from 2-4 and 7-9 pm.
