John Joseph Muska, 98, of Edison, entered into eternal rest on March 14, 2017. Born in Perth Amboy, he was a lifetime communicant of Holy Trinity Slovak Catholic Church, now part of Most Holy Name of Jesus Parish.
John graduated from St. Mary's High School, where he played Varsity basketball in 1936 and 1937. During World War II, he was a tech sergeant with the 13 th Air Force, 68 th Fighter Squadron, serving in the South Pacific, New Guinea, and the Philippines.
After the war, John joined the United Association of Plumbers and Steamfitters and was elected president of Local Union 270. He later became business agent of Local Union 9, continuing to be active on committees even after retiring in 1985. In 2011, he was honored for 65 years of service to the Union.
In his leisure, John served as president of the St. George Catholic Club, of which he was a charter member. He enjoyed fishing with friends on his boat "Buy American" and going to Atlantic City with the Holy Trinity Seniors. A TRUE Yankee and Giants fan, he also enjoyed watching collegiate and high school sports.
John was predeceased by his parents John and Mary Muska and sisters Margaret Doucette, Mildred Seguine and Ethel Seeman, with whom he had lived for many years before moving to Monroe.
He is survived by his brother Raymond Muska, his sister Phyllis Muska, and many nieces nephews, and friends.
John was grateful to longtime friend Jane Klee, who looked after him in his last years, and Allen Harrigan, who helped him considerably in many different ways.
While flowers will be welcomed, contributions may be made to Holy Trinity Worship Site of Most Holy Name of Jesus Parish or to the American Cancer Society.
Funeral services will be at 8:30 AM from Flynn and Son Funeral Home 23 Ford Ave., Fords, followed by a 9 AM Funeral Liturgy at Most Holy Name of Jesus Parish at Holy Trinity Church, Perth Amboy. Interment will follow at Holy Trinity Cemetery, Hopelawn. Visitation is Friday, March 17, 2017, 2-4 and 7-9 PM.
