John J. McKenna, 90, of Fords, died Tuesday February 15, 2022, at New Jersey Veterans Memorial Home in Edison.

Born in Orange to the late John Patrick McKenna and Anna Marion Sollas, John was a graduate of Irvington High School. After graduation, John enlisted in the US Army, serving our country as a Corporal from 1952 to 1954 in the Korean Conflict. He worked for Local 475 Steamfitters Union in Warren, first as a steamfitter, then as a business agent. When John was young, his passion was building and racing stock cars.  He loved heading down to the shore with his family and trusty dog. John was a master at remodeling his homes, anything he rebuilt, his family would say, "his work will last lifetimes". Every Sunday, he enjoyed watching NASCAR on the big screen.

John is predeceased by his loving wife, Delores McKenna in 2020, his daughter, Caren McKenna Thomas and his sister, Clare Brogan. He is survived by his son Craig McKenna; his sister Ceil Endler; his nieces, Susan Brogan and Sharon Brogan; his nephews, Alex Brogan and Nicolas Brogan; grandchildren, Sherri Thomas, Michelle McKenna, Lauren McKenna, and John McKenna; along with 6 great-grandchildren, Caren, Lily, Ava, Chase, Paige & Layla.

A visitation will be held on Friday February 18, 2022, from 10 a.m. to 11 a.m. in the Flynn and Son Funeral Home, 23 Ford Avenue, Fords, NJ 08863. A graveside service will follow at St. Gertrude Cemetery in Colonia.
