October 4, 1931 – June 29, 2024
John "Jack" Kjersgaard, 92, passed away peacefully on Saturday, June 29, 2024 at Bayshore Medical Center in Holmdel.
Born in Fords, Jack graduated from Monmouth University with a degree in education. He taught in Plant City, Florida for several years before returning to New Jersey, where he dedicated over 20 years of his career as a science teacher at Asbury Park High School.
Jack was a man of many passions and talents. He held a pilot's license for small aircrafts and took pride in his Danish heritage, actively supporting the Danish Home in Edison and the Perth Amboy Historical Society. Jack was a a devoted member of Our Redeemer Lutheran Church of Fords, New Jersey. Although he wasn't able to join the military, he was able demonstrate his patriotism throughout his membership in the Civil Air Patrol where he earned the rank of first lieutenant. His skills as a ham radio operator allowed him to assist the military when needed, as well.
Jack found immense joy in family life. He lived with his nephew Carl, Carl's wife Cheryl, and their daughter Carly, becoming an integral part of their household for 25 years.
Jack will be dearly missed by his extended family, including his sisters Carol Gonzalez of Kissimme. Florida and Ruth Borne of Woodbridge, New Jersey, as well as numerous friends and colleagues whose lives he touched.
Friends may pay their respects on Tuesday, July 2, 2024 from 4:00pm – 8:00pm at Flynn and Son Funeral Home, 23 Ford Ave., Fords. Funeral services will be held on Wednesday, July 3, 2024 at 1:00pm, followed by entombment at Alpine Cemetery, Perth Amboy.
