John James (Jim) Hoffer passed away on December 10, 2011.
Formerly of Carteret and Perth Amboy, his most recent residence was in Edison.
John served in the United States Navy during WWII and honorably discharged after serving in the South Pacific. He retired from Aristech Chemicals in Linden, where he was a Troubleshooter and Service Manager for the Oldsmobile Division of GM. He was also the proprietor of Jim's Auto Repairs.
John was an avid NASCAR fan; he built engines and cars and raced in Old Bridge Raceway. He was President of the Blockbuster Club, a member of the Neptune Air Club, and a license pilot. His hobbies included building aircraft and donating them to childrens' wards and hospitals in New Jersey. He donated many to Solberg Airport in Branchburg, NJ, which are now on display. John was a prior communicant of Our Lady of Hungary RC Parish, Perth Amboy and was a current communicant and member Holy Name Society of St. Helena's RC Church, Edison.
John was the loving husband of Elaine (Hogya); loving father of Sharon D. Hoffer of Edison and Christine M. Molinaro and her husband Richard of Whitehouse Station; and adoring grandfather to the loves of his life, his grandson Matthew John Molinaro and his precious granddaughter, Kate Ann Molinaro. He also leaves his sisters-in-law, Matilda (Tillie) Hogya of Sayreville and Irene Hogya of Perth Amboy. He was also a proud uncle to many loving nieces and nephews.
He is predeceased by his parents, Ernest and Ann Hoffer of Carteret; his sisters, Vilma Woodward and Elsie Soos; and his brothers, Ernest and Frank Hoffer.
Funeral services will be held at 9:15AM on Wednesday, December 14, 2011, from Flynn and Son Funeral Home, 23 Ford Avenue, Fords, NJ followed by a 10:00 AM Funeral Liturgy at St. Helena's RC Church, Edison. Interment to follow at Our Lady of Hungary Cemetery, Hopelawn. Visitation will be on Tuesday, December 13, 2011, from 2:00-4:00 and 7:00-9:00 PM.
