Obituary

Former Franklin Township, NJ resident, John L. Hendlowitch, Jr., died July 1, 2011, after a long illness.

He was born November 6, 1919, in Perth Amboy, NJ, to John and Mary Hendlowitch and was raised in Perth Amboy, Hopelawn, and Fords, NJ.

Mr. Hendlowitch served in the United States Army during World War II as a Medic and then as Administrative Assistant to the Battalion Surgeon. He spent a year in North Africa. He worked for many years for The Knights of Columbus in Perth Amboy. He then worked many years for Rutgers University from which he retired at age 62.

Mr. Hendlowitch attended Our Lady of Peace Church in Fords and was a member of the Historical Society of Highlands for many years. His interests included family, military history, and gardening.

He lived with his son, Gerald, in Aberdeen, NJ, for eight years before moving to the U.S. Veteran's Nursing Facility in Lyons, NJ, several years ago.

Mr. Hendlowitch is survived by his son, Gerald Hendlowitch and his partner, Timothy Healey; his sister, Marian Hendlowitch; and his brother and sister-in-law, Edward and Elenore Hendlowitch. He was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Anna Mastalski Hendlowitch; his sister, Frances Hendlowitch; and his brother, Bernard Hendlowitch.

Visitation will be Tuesday, July 5, 2011, 7:00 - 9:00 PM; funeral services will begin Wednesday, July 6, 2011, at 9:30 AM, at the Flynn and Son Funeral Home, 23 Ford Avenue, Fords, NJ 08863; a 10:00 AM Funeral Liturgy will follow in St. Mary's Church, Perth Amboy, NJ; interment will be in St. Mary's Church Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to The Disabled American Veterans.
