John 'Jack' Gardella, 85, of Lavallette, passed away on November 27, 2015 at JFK Medical Center, Edison.
Formerly of Perth Amboy, he resided in Lavallette since 1995.
John was an Ironworker with Local 373 in Perth Amboy for 39 years and a past trustee, retiring in 1989. He served in the US Navy during the Korean War.
He was a communicant at Most Holy Rosary Church, a member and past president of the Italian Tripoli Club in Perth Amboy and member and past treasurer of the Democratic Organization of Lavallette. John worked in his parent's store, Gardella's Bike Shop, where he developed his lifelong enthusiasm for bikes. As a young man, he was also a speed boat racer. John was a baseball coach for the Perth Amboy Youth League and a basketball coach for Holy Rosary. He was also an avid tennis and basketball player.
John was predeceased by his wife, Florence (Zetkulic) just 4 months ago.
Surviving are his children, Robert Sr. and his wife Donna of Avenel, David Sr. and his wife Arlene of Carteret, Carol Schwartz and her husband Eric of Woodbridge, his grandchildren, David Jr, Steven, Diana, Robert Jr, Gardella, Jake and Joe Schwartz, great-grandchildren, David III, Riley and Addison, his brother, Richard, his wife Judy, and many nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be held at 9AM on Wednesday December 2, 2015 at Flynn and Son Funeral Home, 23 Ford Ave., Fords with a 9:30 AM funeral liturgy at Good Shepard Parish, Most Holy Rosary Church, Hopelawn. Entombment will follow at St. James Mausoleum Chapel, Woodbridge. Viewing will be Tuesday 2-4 and 7-9 PM.
