Obituary

On Wednesday, September 15, 2021, John Joseph "Jack" Butler, loving husband, father, brother, and uncle, died suddenly after a short illness.

Jack was born on December 26, 1943, in Elizabeth, NJ, to John and Loretta (Weissman) Butler. A year after graduating Rahway High School, Jack enlisted in the U.S. Navy and served as a corpsman.  Stationed in Norfolk, Virginia he served on the destroyer USS Stonaker in the Mediterranean. Afterwards he went on to work as a mail carrier for the United States Postal Service in Colonia, NJ until his retirement in 1998.

Jack loved the outdoors, enjoyed playing golf, horse racing, and walking daily in the park.  He also enjoyed following his favorite teams, the Mets and the Giants.

Jack is survived by his beloved wife of 28 years, Eleanor (Peterson)Butler, son Robert Butler, dear sister Janice (Bill) McCarthy of Toms River and North Port, Florida, niece, Jill (Howard) Marron, nephew, Conor (Elizabeth) McCarthy, grand nephews, Zachary Marron, Van and Ziggy McCarthy and grandniece, Fiona McCarthy. Jack also leaves behind many family and friends.

Graveside service will be held on Monday, September 20, 2021 at 1PM in St. Gertrude Cemetery, 53 Inman Ave., Colonia, NJ 07067.
